Chandelier Makeover
In 2013/14 I had a spot at Daisy’s Designer Alley. Daisy's was a super cute boutique where you could rent a spot to sell your goodies. The owner, Judy, had been telling me for days that I needed more light in my spot, so I set out to look for lighting. I hit Habitat for Humanity and look what I found, this perfect little chandelier, and the best part, it was only $15.00! Now to find the shades. Well, it just so happens that the Habitat for Humanity in Raleigh has shades out the wazoo, and most are under $3.00! For those of you who don't do much shopping at your local hardware store, that is a GREAT deal. Most shades range from $5.00 to $15.00.
So now, I have my cute chandelier and my perfect shades, but how can I change it up?
This is the easy part!
I just grabbed a can of Annie Sloan Pure White & and a can of Annie Sloan Graphite. I mixed the two colors and made a nice gray, and then I did a little dry brushing with all three colors. Topped it off with Annie's perfect furniture wax and here you have it, a fresh new look!
Total Cost
$15 Chandelier
$6.00 in shades
Maybe $5 in paint and wax
and about 30 minutes of my time
I don't know about you, but I don't think it gets any easier than that!
DIY Candlesticks
I fell in love with some candlesticks I saw in one of my favorite stores last Christmas. I really wanted a large grouping, but didn’t want to spend the money to buy as many as I wanted. So I hit my locals Goodwills and made my own. I think that turned out absolutely perfect!
Here’s everything I used. I just layered and layered until I had just the right finish. I kind of gunked up the paint to give them lots of texture and then layered more paint.
